Morris School District Hosts Canvas Day for K-12 Administrators

At Canvas, we love our users—whether they’re the teaching, learning, or administrating kind. And that’s why we were so excited to attend a special Canvas user day on Feb. 12 hosted by Morris School District in New Jersey. Morris brought together IT administrators from schools across the state to learn more about running Canvas in a K-12 environment.

Morris School District Hosts Canvas Day for K-12 Administrators

EdTech Specialists Jim Grogan and Lane Worrall from Morristown High School, kicked off the event by presenting their top five pointers for the setup and maintenance of Canvas for K-12, as well as their top five favorite Canvas features, including:

  1. Global Announcements

  2. Departmental Courses

  3. Commons

  4. Parent Access

  5. Playlists With Modules

Educational Technology Specialist Nancy Latimer from Mountain Lakes High School followed up by sharing strategies for a successful Canvas rollout, as well as her approach to effective professional development. Next up, four Morristown High School teachers, Christina Bifulco, Alejandra Formoso, Lindsay Henry, and Bernadette Mehrtens, discussed their favorite Canvas features and their positive impact on teaching and learning.

The day concluded with a lively Q&A panel featuring administrators, high school teachers, and representatives from Canvas. This event showed how Morris SD is blazing trails to encourage digital learning in the 21st century. For the other districts in New Jersey who’re just starting out with Canvas—or just beginning to evaluate learning platforms—being able to see how teachers utilize Canvas helped bring clarity as to why an LMS is necessary for today's classroom.
