Well, hi, everyone, and welcome to our fifth and final demo of the day inside an AI powered skills LMS. And this is gonna be presented by Justice Anderson from Instructure. So Justice, close us out for the day. Just think you might have been coming in as I was introducing you. The floor is yours. Thank you so much.
Let me share with everyone. Alright. Hello, everyone. Justice Anderson, solutions engineer with Instructure. Happy to be here with you all today.
I'm gonna take a look at inside an AI powered skills LMS today. So let's look at the agenda the agenda really quick. The pressure on l and d teams has never been higher. Learners expect training that connects to their careers. Leadership wants proof that programs are working, and teams need to move faster than ever.
So Canvas career by structure is built for that reality. So today, we wanna look at how real time insights make it easy to show program impact to leadership. We'll look at how AI accelerates content creation without sacrificing quality. And then finally, we'll take a look at personalized skills aligned learning and what that looks like for a learner. So we're gonna go ahead and jump right into it.
Now let me remind you all that if you have any questions, please go ahead and drop them into the chat. We have my colleague, Britney, in the chat, so she will be manning the chat. So if you have any questions, drop them in the chat along the way, and we'll make sure we queue those up to get answered at the end of the demo. So with that, let's get started with the demo. What you're looking at here is the Canvas career from the learner perspective.
So my learner, Elizabeth Rodriguez, here comes into Canvas career. It's redesigned. It's purpose built for the adult learner. So very clean aesthetic, very clean UI. It has all the things I need as a learner to get started.
I know how many activities I've completed. I know how much time I've spent learning, and this is a total, count. I can drop into any of the courses that I'm in or have been in to see what I spent on learning in those courses. And importantly, I also see the number of skills I've obtained over the time that I've been training. So this is very important for our learner to connect to their career.
So I need to know as a learner what things are gonna impact my career and how do I move myself forward. So that's what we're we're targeting here. Also, there's notifications on the right hand side here that allow me to see any changes that have been made in my courses. So if there's a new date to a a class or an assignment, I'll see all of those updates right here in my notification center. I also can see right away my courses.
I can see which courses I'm in. I can see my progress in each course. I also see below the skills highlights. So these are the skills that I've obtained in these courses. Clicking onto any of these icons here will take me directly into my course.
I can see I've got fifteen minutes on this assignment. So if I have about fifteen minutes to take this assignment, I can click into that page and go directly into that assignment. Again, purpose built to keep all distractions away. This works perfectly on your, Android or your, iPhone because there is an app, and the app is, in the in those play centers for Google and then on your iPhone, in the app center. Once in the course, we talked a little bit about AI power and how to excel accelerate course creation, but one of the things that Canvas career touts is that ability to support that learner as well.
Anytime you see the star there, that's Ignite AI. So Ignite AI is available not only for our learning providers, but also for our learners. And in this case, I can create a summary of this page. I can rephrase this page, I can tell it to tell me more about this topic, I can create flashcards, or I can have it quiz me on the content from this page. Now this content is coming directly from the page here.
So it's not generating content to quiz me on CRMs in general, but it's gonna quiz me on the content based on what I'm learning and looking at on this page. So I could see here what's the primary purpose of a a CRM tool. I have all of those, options there, and I can go through, answer those questions. I can regenerate the question. I can have it check the answer for me as I go through.
So that AI powered system is always available there for your learners to be able to, help advance their their knowledge on this topic. I'm gonna jump back over here to the home page here because I also wanna share skills. Now the skills are very important. Now this skill space allows me as a learner to see exactly the skills that I've earned or brought in because I do have that ability to upload my resume and have ignite AI pull any skills that are relevant off that resume and add them to my my skills here. But importantly, I can see skills from my resume, but I can also see any skills from active courses.
And below those skills are gonna be course recommendations. The course recommendations are tied to the skills. So if I need more skills in project evaluation, it'll show down here courses that would give me those next sets of skills. So really providing that pathway for your learner to be able to connect the skills that they have to the skills that they need and then provide courses or training that'll help them move to that next level. So, again, using AI to power what we see in our in our learning path or our learning journey here.
Clicking on any of these skills, you'll notice that the skills have these tags in them. I'm gonna open this up to all skills here. So you'll see some say advanced. There are some proficient. There may be some beginner ones here.
And all of those skills are tied back to Bloom's taxonomy, and what it's telling us is those skills are considered either proficient, advanced, or, beginner. You, as a learning provider, will create those skills taxonomies and add those here, so tying those skills back to the course. Again, making sure I know exactly what skills I'm gaining in each course. Clicking on one of the skills opens up this other pane here, and what that pane provides for us is the evidence where I learned and where I got the skill. And then from there, I'm also gonna get a course recommendation that would take me to the next skill to to grow to the advanced level of that particular skill.
And in this case, that skill is project planning techniques. So that's the learner side of the house. I wanted to spend a little bit more time on the learning provider. So those are the AI features that will help accelerate the learner progress. But as I move over to the learning provider, what I'm looking at is this data and insights dashboard.
Now this dashboard is full of information for me as a a leader. So I'm on the admin dashboard. I'm looking at any learners who need support. So these this information is being surfaced by AI. So it's being filled in by looking at all of the records, all of the courses, and telling me any students or any learners that need assistance.
I can see Elizabeth here has missed two assignments, so is Liam, Emily, and Sarah. I can go from here. I can send a note directly out, to Elizabeth here. AI is gonna generate this first pass on the note. One thing to note, any of the tools that are inside of Instructure's tools or, solutions, Canvas career included, anytime that AI is employed, the learner or the user has the last say.
So me as the learning provider here, I can come in and I can change this text in here and create the content I want in there or I can adopt this and sign my name and send it off. So always has a human in the loop. So anytime that you see these tools, there's gonna be a human in the loop. So I could come in and and effectively see that this learner needs support and take action on that support right away. To the right hand side, there's also these insights that are being driven by AI as well.
So these insights are based on the data and insights that you see here in these widgets. I can come down and I'll see forty four learners gained a new skill. Learning insights twelve learners have yet to start their course. This may be one I wanna take action on. Even the other ones, I love the fact that you can take action on positive things as well.
So I can take these forty four learners gave forty five new skills and shoot them out an email that supports their learning and supports their efforts and lets them know that, hey, as an as a manager, I'm seeing what you're doing to advance your skills. The one that might be most urgent for me, though, is this one that, the learners haven't started. So if I click on that, I can send a note to nudge them maybe to go ahead and get started. So great tool, great asset in here. Of course, you manage the recipients.
You can rephrase this content using AI. All of that is available for you here to to support you in your journey as a learning manager. Now also from here, I can also see data on all of the courses. I can see the learner progress on any course. I can drill into a specific course if I want to.
Let's say, I don't even know if anyone's in this course, but we'll drill into this one. I can see that three learners are in progress. One learner has completed it. Here are the average skills, the average time spent. And another thing that's really great, thinking from the position of a person who needs to see what skills have been earned by my users, this learner skills will show me all of the skills that have been earned by these users.
So I can come in, and I can see that this user, James, has gained or picked up all of these different skills here. So thinking about that time, we I need to know if someone has a certain skill. There's a quick way for me to find that out by looking at the top learners and then looking at those skills. Again, popular skills that are are are learning, helping me decide which courses to create and which courses to to maybe sunset and not create anymore. So that's another, widget that's available for you.
Now these widgets today, they're pretty they're set. These these are the widgets that are there, but we are in the progress of, in the process of creating more, widgets that are flexible. So meaning I, as a a learner or a learning provider, I can dial up the widgets that I want to have on my dashboard. So if I don't need to see the top learners, I'd be able to take that off. So that's in in process, and we're working to to put those types of things in place.
And from here, we also wanna take a look at course creation. So once I'm in here in my course creation, space, I can generate a course, and I can generate a course either based on a prompt or based on sources I have. And, actually, let me do this really quick. I'm gonna come over here and go because I wanna generate a course based on some sources. So I'm gonna add a source to this.
I'm gonna upload that source. Actually, this source is already in here, so I can choose a source from content that's already been added to my shell here. I'm gonna say AgUI. I'm gonna add that, and I'm just gonna click generate a course. Now that's gonna take a second to generate.
But what it's gonna do, it's gonna look at that document, and based on that document, it's gonna generate a course on that document. So here, it's asking me it's gonna interview me as well. What subject topic? So this is on Ag UI. Yep. And I actually should have told it to maybe only create, mean, three modules or two modules.
So it's gonna look at the content and based on the content, create the number of modules that it sees fit. But you can direct it to create a certain number of modules. You can direct it on the level the course should be. So you can say what, beginner or advanced that you want the course to be. So all of those things are available for you to to create or add as the prompt.
You also could add a few sources and then add a prompt as well, or you can create a course just based on a prompt and then go into each step and create content there. So we'll take a look at all of those areas also. So once that course is created, I'll generate the review here. And so now I see it gave the understanding Ag UI, agent user interaction protocols, and then it created five modules here. So within these modules, now I can see the different areas that it added.
It added the learning objective, a definition, and explain, and it looks like, identify cases. So maybe that's an assignment. If I'd wanna change something here, I can really come in here and say, let's take off this identify use cases. I don't want that in there. So, again, human in the loop.
I'm also going to take off for the sake of our demo here, I'm gonna take off a few items because I wanted to generate a little faster. So we've got these modules available. Let's make this now. That is module two. Cancel.
And let's make this module three. I'll change that. And I'll say done. And then from here, I'm gonna add the learning objects. From adding the learning objects, it allows me to also, at this point, generate the content for these pages.
So what it just did for us is it gave us a outline or a shell for what it could look like. From here, I can go in and generate the different pieces of that course. So I'm gonna generate content in just one module here. So I can generate all of the content. So, essentially, you would go through, generate all the content, and see what it generates.
And, again, every single time there's a AI tool used as the learning provider, I can come in and change or update that. I can check it against my sources and make sure that it's the content that I I really wanted to see. We can view that content from here, and it'll allow you to see all of the content actually. Let's I'm just gonna confirm that one. Let's view generate another one.
We'll generate a few more here. Because once you've generated I'm just checking out the the q and a while we're generating some courses. So is AI used in generating reports in the LMS? So inside of the the the dashboard, you have all those reports, but, yes, you can generate reports based on the content in the course as as well. Alright. So I'm gonna uh-oh.
Confirm. Alright. Create. So I'm gonna have to go ahead and create the course. Alright.
So here's our new course. Let's click into it. So it's generated the outline of that course. I can see all of the different sections. Now here's that other piece that I was talking about generating inside of the course.
So let's say I just wanted to start this from scratch without any help from AI, but I wanted to to generate it once I've got the shell. Maybe I already know the modules I want. So you can come in and do that very same thing. I can generate a unit from here. I can generate many units, a page, an assignment, or just use chat to build from here.
So I can also do that way. You can see I can add sources. So from in here, if I wanted to generate a page, I can give it a prompt here to generate a page. I'm gonna take a overview. And we'll say I wanna choose the module.
Let's put it in two and next. So from there, it would do the same thing. It would generate that content. So you have lots of options in terms of when you generate the content and how you want to generate the content from here. So as that as that works, we can take a look at and make sure that our content was generated over here.
This is the content that was generated originally, I can see the header. And this is all based on the branding of my Canvas shell as well. So this our branding is the the red for Canvas. So this is all the the styling has been added in red, therefore, for the branding of the page. So it just really kinda takes on your your branding that you've added in there.
So there's a page. I like it. I think I'm gonna keep it, so we can go from there and continue on to, you know, our next section and looking at the assignments and all of the things that it generated. So course creation using AI. So that's exactly how you would do that.
Now there are other few other pieces I wanna make sure that we touch here, and that's the skills manager from the learning provider side. So here's the taxonomy that we've used. And, actually, I'm gonna skip back over to this section here to do the skills taxonomy, here. So in this skills taxonomy, you can see all of the different skills that have been loaded up, those descriptions for those skills, and then the skills group. And then clicking on any of them allows you to change that skill if you need to change it.
You could change any of the header descriptions. All of those things can be managed from here. Under configurations, this is where if I wanted to add a list of skills, just kinda upload those skills, I can do that from here. And then this is just a page that talks a little bit about Bloom's taxonomy and how those skills are aligned to, the different course areas. Under the skills taxonomy I mean, alignment here, this is where we start to see exactly the skill and then what courses have which skills.
So clicking on the CRM course, I can see here that the skills that are assigned to that course and the relevancy, the skill, and then the Bloom's taxonomy. So you really can manage all the way down to the actual content level and add skills to those those different content areas. Again, I can see all the skills that are in this course, where they're aligned, and how they match up to the Bloom's taxonomy, and then, courses in the learning library that have those different where those different skills live at. So that jumps me directly into the course, and then it takes me into the skills alignment back into the skills alignment. So I can see all of that information directly under this section here in skills.
The other piece I wanted to share with you all is the ability to create programs. So I could have a series of courses under a program, and let's see if we've got one in here. Does we do we have one in here? There we go. So under this program, this new hire or onboarding program, there are four different courses. Welcome aboard.
Let's get started. Work great together and always improving. You'll notice that I can also, from here, determine whether this is required or if it's optional. If it's required, I may wanna have that learner as soon as they complete this course be dropped into the next course. So that's what I would do.
I would say auto enroll. So as soon as I've finished that requirement for course one, auto enrolled into course two. But maybe the first three are required, but the last one is optional. So maybe I change that to be optional and then learner self enrolled because that first three courses are the ones that I you have to take, but that last one is optional. So you can set that.
Now those times when you're creating a, new program and you want to maybe have a placeholder, you know something's coming down the pike, but you just don't know what it is yet, you can add a placeholder in there. You can or you can add other courses. So it's showing you all the courses that are listed in my system here that I can add into this program. So I can create a program, or I can add that placeholder here that will allow me to then later come and add the the, focus of those programs. In terms of people management, when I come in here to manage, users, I have the ability to search for users.
You can take bulk actions on users. So as I filter this list down, maybe I want to look at all of my my new hires in twenty twenty six. From here, I can take this and enroll all of these students into a course that they need, the new hire course or a new hire program, or I can assign a leader to all of these folks. I can say all of these folks are gonna be supported by Britney, and Britney is gonna manage all of these folks. Now when Britney has access to manage all of these these, new learners, this can be, managed by her, and she can only see the users that she manages.
So that's another way as a learning provider, I can, get support. I can share the the the wealth of managing those folks so I'm not always having to be the one that check everything so I could push some of that down to their first line manager. There was a question about the HRS. There are integrations that you can use, here. So I know for sure Salesforce is one that you can connect to to Canvas career right now, but you can do CRM and HRS, integrations here.
So you do have that ability to integrate into your CRM and, your HRIS systems. Okay. Britney, are there any questions in the chat? See. It looks like we answered most of them in the chat. I know we've got about five minutes left, so I wanna make sure that if there's any questions, guys throw them in the chat.
And while you while you do that, I will cover permissions. So your permissions are very strong. You can get very granular with your permissions for your courses and your account roles. So just, very similar to to Canvas LMS, Canvas career allows you to manage permissions all the way down to very granular areas, down to very granular areas there. And then the other piece is the other piece I wanted to share with you all very quickly before we get to questions is the syncable objects.
Now where are my syncable objects live at? Let's clear this out. Alright. There we are. Syncable objects. So what your syncable objects are is the ability to create something once and share it across the system.
So if you wanted to create a page or an assignment or an assessment that needs to be in more than one course, you can do that through syncable objects. Think about a policy that changes, that you know is gonna change at some point, and you wanna make sure that when it does change, you can update that in every course that that policy is in syncable object. You create that syncable object as a page, add the syncable object, and it allows you to not only change that, but you see the version history of that too. So I can keep track of when those things have changed. So there is a question about the AI reporting.
So we did stop on the the data and insights. So this is generated this entire page is generated by Ignite AI. So everything you see here is keeping up to date and being generated and powered by Ignite AI along with that ability to take action on this data. So I can see things like learner progress, my top learners, popular skills. Each one of these can be also downloaded from here.
So these reports can be downloaded as CSV files, but you have access to manage all of the different courses. You can see all of the activity in those courses, progress here in this case. Sixteen learners, thirty seven learners are in progress, Twenty fourteen have completed. So I can see all that information here. And if you take action, it'll also show you a list of action that that you've taken on these different, insights that have showed up here in the insights bar.
Now there's also your your other reporting that's inside of Canvas itself. So you do have an on top of your dashboard here, you will also have, reports that are inside of your just your Canvas itself. So all of your reports, your Cam reports that live inside of Canvas are all still here, and you still have access to all of these reports. So these reports are keeping up with things like, grade exports, the outcomes, and and those types of things. So that's all the time I have for questions.
But if you have additional questions, please, on the next, let me slide back over here and share this screen. There is a QR code to click on. I'm gonna turn it back to Bianca because she has some housekeeping and wrap up to do. Thank you so much for wrapping up our day. Well, of course, that brings us to the end of today's demo day. A huge thanks to all of our sponsors and, of course, all of you for either being here live or watching the recording later.
