In face-to-face classrooms, a lot of key communication is non-verbal—expression, posture, even simple presence or absence. These cues tell an experienced teacher who is engaged and who is struggling and help us to direct our attention. These cues also communicate between learners—who is open to social contact, who might be willing to help a peer—and who needs help!
