Trooper Michael Ayala

Arizona Department of Public Safety

Michael Ayala is an 11-year U.S. Army veteran and an Arizona State Trooper with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS). Since beginning his law enforcement career in 2018, he has served in a variety of operational and training roles, combining field experience with a passion for developing the next generation of public safety professionals. After graduating from the Arizona State Trooper Academy, Trooper Ayala was assigned to District 6 in Casa Grande, where he spent six years serving with the Highway Patrol Division. During that time, he earned recognition as the 2019 District 6 Criminal Interdictor of the Year for his outstanding work in criminal interdiction, leading the district in weapons and drug-related arrests. In 2023, Trooper Ayala received the AZDPS Extinguished Service Award and was named Officer of the Year by the Pinal County Attorney's Office for his heroic actions in rescuing four occupants from a burning vehicle. 

In 2024, he joined the Operational Training Section, where he serves as the Trooper Trainee/Pre-Hire Coordinator and Canvas LMS Online Training Coordinator. In this role, he develops and manages online training programs that support the professional development of personnel across AZDPS. He also served as the Basic Training Trooper for Arizona State Trooper Academy Class 38, helping prepare and mentor future Arizona State Troopers. Committed to lifelong learning and service, Trooper Ayala became a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) in 2025. He is also a certified instructor in Physical Fitness, Tactical Driving, Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT), Reality-Based Training, Patrol Tactics, and CPR

Account Executive, Instructure

Travis is an Account Executive for Instructure and previously worked for the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS). Travis began his career with AZDPS in 2005 as a State Trooper in the Metro East District, where he worked for over nine years before transferring to the Criminal Investigations Division in 2014. While working in the Criminal Investigations Division, Travis was assigned to the Central Intelligence Unit and worked as a detective at the Arizona Counter Terrorism Intelligence Center in Phoenix. In 2017, Travis transferred to the Operational Training Section, where he served as the Annual Trooper Training Coordinator and the Canvas LMS Administrator. In 2021, he was promoted to Sergeant and spent the remaining years of his career supervising the Professional Development Unit and the Operational Training Section. 

During his tenure as a State Trooper, he was an AZPOST General Instructor, Firearms  Instructor, Patrol Rifle Instructor, and Physical Fitness Instructor. He was also a Master  Instructor for the General Instructor program at AZPOST. He taught various courses at the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy, Phoenix Regional Police Academy, and the AZDPS State Trooper Academy. Travis still teaches professionally and is an Adjunct Instructor for Arizona Christian University and Rio Salado College, where he teaches courses in Criminal Justice Studies, Christian Studies, and Biblical Theology. Travis holds a Bachelor’s degree from Vanguard University, a Master’s degree from Grand Canyon University, a Master’s in Divinity degree from Liberty University, and a Doctorate in Ministry in Spiritual Formation from Liberty University.
