Thank you guys for coming. I know it's getting late, so we appreciate at you being here and joining us, for our presentation on learning services throughout your customer journey. This does have a slight focus on higher education, but I think you will see application, no matter the institute. So our agenda today, we're gonna do some introductions of who we are first. We're gonna talk about our learning services, what we offer, and some app locations for it. We're gonna give you some examples of higher ed use cases of institutions that have used our services in the past.

We're going to hopefully have some shared experiences and call upon you guys to, think about, your own institutional goals And then we are happy to answer questions, about anything that we talk about today. Welcome. My name is Lauren Fox. I, currently a program manager with the learning analytics side of learning services, and my focus when working with customers, that are part of the instructor platform. Are really looking at data informed, change strategy and decision making.

I have about three and a half years at instructure. And I bring, more than twenty years in the education system before joining instructure. I have a focus in applied learning and development and a mass degree and data analytics and visualization. So really focusing on those folks who really want data to inform the adoption of our tools. I'm so glad you're here, and I'm so glad to be with you.

And my name is Britney Jean. I am a principal instructional designer with Instructure, and I've been with a company for almost two years. I prior to that, I should say I was a Canvas admin, secondary math teacher, so I wrote the math background. And both of us are our Texas girls born and raised. So, yeah, a tech is too.

Awesome. But we get to interact with clients literally all over the world. So it's been fun and and a journey, right, through it. We hope to share some of those stories with you guys today. Yeah.

And shout out to our entire team. So we are here representing a team of about eighty folks on learning services at instructure. And we love our products from Canvas to Mastery Connect to Impact, learn platform, elevate all of our products. We love all of them, but we also, as educators, every single one of us, or played some role in education. We really believe firmly in the power of professional services professional learning and training, strategic training, strategic planning and adoption planning to make sure that the changes that you all are making are well supported.

So when we talk about our services, we are representing a very large, group of experience and perspective that we bring, but our number one priority is making sure that you all are successful with your initiative. So We wanna make sure that every, opportunity we have to, reach you and your staff where you're at, is successful. We have a variety of services, and I'm gonna talk to you about the three main groups today. And we're going to give you some use cases, and we're going to encourage you to see where those might resonate with you, and think about how we might be able to support you in those vision and goals. So as I mentioned, we have, the main side we're looking at today is on the left hand side, the learning services.

So I am part of the strategic and learning analytics consulting side of the house, and, that that focus is on the data piece, but we do have strategic consulting that can be unrelated to data and really just high level. What are your initiatives? What are your goals around teaching and learning? And how can we help you with that adoption and the change strategy pieces. The second branch of of that learning services side is the training in professional learning. And that's, we're gonna give you some examples, but that's really creating that foundational knowledge and moving to the application and really moving you along that customer journey for deeper and more accelerated adoption. And in the third piece, I'll let Britney speak to.

Yeah. So that's just oh, that's my group. I'm an instructional designer, like I said. So our instructional design team works to help institutions create, course templates kind of at that very base level. We do a lot of content, design, course builds, course enhancements, course reviews, really anything like design wise that you need guidance on or coaching, or you would just like us to take over and do it for you.

We're happy to support that. As well. So that's what our instructional design team helps support. And then we also have this other side of the house that we call services, that's in lumped in here, and it's technical services. And that includes migration.

So that that means that basically when a client comes from another LMS, our migration teams will help to bring over previous courses and previous content, into a Canvas platform. So all together, we make these services, organization of, Instructure. And our team really likes to focus on the, on the ideal scenario where we would work together the strategic part, the training professional learning part, and the instructional design. They're also interrelated, and we wanna make sure that you have a cohesive plan and really making sure you're achieving those teaching and learning goals. So don't think of each of these in isolation, but they're each those three prongs to really being success full around, professional development, training and instructional design.

And we're gonna go into all of these a little bit more later throughout the present So you can get some more ideas of how those services work. So how can learning services support your institution? I'm gonna let Britney go ahead and pose, a question. Have you all do a little activity? Yeah. So what we want you to think about is what is something that your institution wants to accomplish? What is the goal that you have? This fall next year. Whenever that case is, what is something that you want to achieve? And we want you to think about that today, and and you may not have a solid answer yet.

But as you kind of think about, something that you want to work towards, we want you to consider how some of services could support those initiatives. Because like Lauren said, we're all about making you successful. We want you to have an amazing adoption process. And so you may find based on your goals that one or more of our services could support you in that initiative. So kinda keep that in the back of your mind today as we go through it.

It is something that you would like to accomplish, you know, now or in the the far or near future, you know, as you continue to implement. And if you're not certain, it can you can pose that as a question. Could you help me with these things? Yeah. And don't think of it about it as initial adoption. Think about the different levels of adoption.

Maybe you've been using Canvas for a while and you've plateaued and you wanna get to the next level, or you're just getting started. How do we get started? So think about each level adoption and and think about where you're at and where you'd like to be. So your current state and your future state How could we help you get there? We'll give you about a minute or so to think about it and try to if you can record it somewhere, so that way we are going to ask you to think about this. At the end, and maybe give us some examples, and we can give you some examples of how we would be able to help you. So don't forget it.

Alright. Are you guys good? Ready? You need a little more time? Yeah. I'm sure this is probably something you you think about every day, right? If you're looking for an example, we're gonna use this example right here. So if you like to read through that, I'm gonna read through it with you. But if you're stuck right now and you like a little bit of in you can go ahead and take a look at this Alright.

For the sake of the recording, I'm gonna go ahead and read this. This is an example use case, a very, very, practical one that we see currently, a lot of the times in our higher ed institutions, and honestly could be probably at any level, K twelve or higher ed. The challenge here that we are using in our example use cases this institution wants to build a highly engaging curriculum strategy and plan for a program where learning will shift from face to face to online. They would like to include both synchronous and asynchronous experiences. Their challenge here is to determine instructional strategies, which student experiences, which programs, and how will they develop those, the faculty interactions that they see as high impact what assessments would they like to include? How are they going to create and measure engagement? And what kind of communication plans will this require to truly include all levels of of, of entry around that adoption? Just to draw out the specific requirements here, we've bulleted a few points that we thought were relevant, and we want to make sure that we do have those synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences and that the the the directions and all of that context is built into the LMS to make sure that there is a high success rate for the student.

We also wanna make sure that those subject matter experts, that they have that knowledge and skill to move from, that face to face or that hybrid to a strictly online environment. What does that require? What are those best practices? What are those universal designs for learning that we wanna make sure that we've incorporated there? The third one is incorporating hands on experiences because we wanna make sure that we have that engagement, and that's that's something that they really, really thought was important and synonymous with engagement. So making sure that it's connected to the content area as well so that they're relevant experiences that are stimulating and engaging. So hands on felt like the the right direction to go. So now that we've all thought about our own challenges, I'd like to take a look at each of these through the lens of our three branches of services.

Are there any brave souls out there that would like to share their current challenge? So that way as we are going through our examples, we can also think about those alongside you. Anybody wanna share? Yes, ma'am. We had a K twelve implementation that we're just starting. Okay. So just starting a K twelve implementation.

Okay. One year. Uh-huh. I we're thinking about the consistency of the temples that we're using and, you know, best practice for you know, creating those templates, and, you know, is it best to start out? Do you wanna Yeah. Yeah.

Let me let me bring you the mic so that you can repeat because I think that'd be easier. Yeah. There you go. Okay. K twelve implementation, one year, We are taking, we're looking at, like, templating to make everything consistent for students, especially in the primary grades.

So we wouldn't like best practice. Do you, you know, do you start with super simple This is what we give, you know, teachers to use for now, and then we let the lead out slowly to what they can do with these things. I mean, just guidance on how the best way to do this. So we don't have this explosion of questions we we have really good, you know, supports that are gonna be in place, right, within with with Instructure. But we're still gonna get those questions ourselves.

So, you know, that that's my question is how what's the best way to implement implement this. And I hear that the the primary, criteria here and correct me if that's not is consistency. Correct. Yeah. And consistency around practices that you all have identified and believe are going to be the processes and practices that are really going to enable you all to be more successful in your programming.

Correct. Okay. Thank you for sharing. Yes. Yes.

Thank you. And she is she is here for k twelve, but Any of you does that resonate with you even as a higher ed? It's a few steps that these these are these are not problems that really stay in one in one area. So thank you for sharing that. Would anybody else like to share their challenge before we jump in? Okay. Thank you so much.

Alright. So strategic consulting, as I mentioned, is one of our branches. One of our options. And this is where we really like to begin. And the reason we like to begin here is we like to really know what your vision and goals are We'll we we need to know what your success measures are.

We need to know, how are we going to create a plan for you that's going to incorporate everything from instructional design to communication, engagement, and training. We wanna make sure that all of those components are taken into account from the very beginning. Because the worst thing that can happen is you can get down the road and not have a solid strategic plan and then you try to do something, and it doesn't really match or align with what those objectives are. So we wanna make sure you're extremely intentional and strategic from the beginning. So the question we like to ask is, how can we make change easy for your faculty? And how can we sustain that long term adoption of canvas.

We don't want them to just get in and just use it. We want them to use it well, and we want them to begin to innovate, and really start to inspire and engage students to participate in a way that really does change those outcomes. So strategic consulting is where we like to begin. Here's the overview. So we like to start with those strong plans for the rollout.

We like to make sure that we're building a bridge between our product and pedagogy. So as I mentioned, we love our products, but our products only are as good as as we support them in. Right? We have to make sure that they work for us where we're at at all times of the adoption. So we really wanna make sure that we are thinking about that strategically And then if you would like to go a little bit deeper and you have, and any initiatives around data, we really recommend that you work with our our learning analytics to really bring in the data piece as your evidence to really drive those decisions around your strategies. And that makes it so much easier for you all to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of your def decisions.

We at all levels, a strict strategy, we like to bring in data but some institutions like to be a little bit more focused. And if you choose any of our, features or products such as admin analytics or impact or learn platform for K twelve. If you're really focusing on products that are more data driven, then we really like to bring in a consultant that can focus on those strategies around those products. So here are some examples of some strategies and tactics that we like to use. So we always make that we started with your vision goals and success measures.

So that way, we have that evaluation criteria, as I mentioned earlier. We would like to make sure that you have those communication training engagement plans make sure that if you need targeted leadership coaching or consulting, that we provide that for you. Sometimes it's a lot about really helping get you to that point to have that confidence and that confidence to be a leader to really lead this change and sustain and scale this these initiatives that are pushing through these products. So we wanna make sure that you have that, that foundational set of skills to be a a great effective leader. We wanna make sure that if you need all of the levels or your stakeholders, making sure that you have all of the training and coaching sessions, we wanna make sure that we're supporting all your initiatives, whatever they may be.

They may be data initiatives. They may be mobile or virtual as in our use case earlier, you saw that moved to online completely. So these are some of the the the different ways that we really to meet you where you're at, and it could be any combination of these things. So those are some of the the examples, that we like to draw from. And this is the model that we use.

So it it's broken, and this is across all of instructure, all of our, customer success measures, all of our consultants use this framework. So it really is product agnostic, and it's really, it's all areas. We use it with profit, for profit, nonprofit, higher end k twelve. This is a a pretty much a framework that we like to use, and it really is based on inquiry cycles. So it really is guiding you in that continuous improvement to make sure that you're always deepening that adoption to the level that really matches where your your expectations are.

So we break that up into two pieces. We really think about change leadership. We think about your vision. We help you assess your current state so that way we know where we're starting so that way we can measure where we've gone. And we help you come up with a plan So that way we can make that, successful adoption and that change management, help you reach your goals The second part of that is the adoption consulting.

So this is where we really come in and help you execute that plan. And we make sure that as we're executing, we are assessing the, success of that plan, and then we're adjusting as we need. Right? And we also, in here, we're making sure that we're really differentiating and accommodating all of the needs and meeting your users where they're at because we realize with change strategy in order to get that buy in and that owner from all your different levels, we wanna make sure that we've assessed where they're already at, and we don't wanna make assumptions of what kind of support they need. We wanna assess where they're at and get them where they are. So that way, we they feel respected as professionals.

So have you all seen this success model anywhere? With CSMs or anything you have? Yeah. Good. That makes me happy. A lot different. And this this one's pretty consistent.

This one's been within sure for, I would say, about eight or ten years now. So, we we used to, just a little FY for you. We used to have plan at the top, and we used to really focus on plan, but we realized with so much focus on data and, evaluation or anything. Wanna first assess where we're at and not make any assumptions and jump right into a plan, but let's see where we really are. Because that that's more of the current climate right now as as that assessment piece.

So a little bit of a shift there just by shifting that circle a little bit. So here's the, the example again, the strategic consulting example I introduced, and here are some of the things, that'll probably resonate with you. So one of the things we wanted to do is we wanted, in that use case example we provide is making sure that the solution is going to provide that consistency. It's almost like we planned an interview. And this is a really common, scenario for for everybody, though, is we wanna make sure that we are creating a very consistent flow of learning so that learning progression is very, very clear for everyone, the way it's designed and the way that it is executed.

We want to be able to really see how our learners are moving through that progression, and modules are the best way to do that. Right? Over here on the right hand side, you can also see that when we tie those things to outcomes, it gives us such so much more information about each of our learners and how How effective that design is? Is the modular design really supporting learners and being successful? Are there changes that we need to make? Are are they on pace? To complete, those requirements, and meet those outcomes, at at the level that you expect them to. And the third piece there is remember we said we wanted some hands on and we wanted to increase engagement, even though we were moving on to online. A lot of people believe that when we move online, that we reduce that engagement. So how can we make them feel more confident around really, ensuring that there is engagement there? So here you can see, the incorporation of interactive content to enhance that learner engagement.

So here are some examples of some strategic consulting, tactics and strategies that we like to use with customers with that specific use case and, similar ones that we've shared. On the on this slide here, you're seeing some some data, and this would be, the incorporation of impact. Have you all heard of the product impact? So it's an adoption tool that uses data, messaging, and support to really further, each individual user meet them where they're and and support them within Canvas and all of the integrated tools. So on, the right hand side, you are seeing a chart there that's showing all of the different features within Canvas, and you're able to see within a timeframe what the activity looks like. An impact allows you, through the tool adoption tool reporting, to drill in and see students who are active and inactive.

And actually send out messaging to them to support them. They may be active, and you may say great job. You're using modules. Have you considered using prerequisites and requirements? Here's a video that shows you how to do that, and it could walk them through how to set up prerequisites and requirements. And that's from the data.

The other piece of this is to look at the this users that are inactive. Maybe they're not meeting those instructional outcomes that you have set for them. And you can go in and you can set up a campaign from this report that allows them to have that support in real time embedded in Canvas to show them exactly how to get started with modules. So it's a very, nice way to take data and take action right inside of Canvas. So that's what Impact is all about.

And here's an example of how a strategic consultant that focuses on data. Would be able to walk you through, making sure that the instructional design is consistent. They are using modules and then support those users in being successful if they're not And you can customize all this. So let's say you came in and you worked with, Britney, and you developed a template, and you decided these are the pieces of the template that we wanna make sure that we're measuring, then we would be able to create a re a reporting template for you that measures how those templates are being used. So that's that that timing and that strategy all working together to be successful.

Alright. So here's some other examples of strategic consulting I'm not gonna go through all of these. On the left hand side, you can see learning the leading. I'm sorry, leading the learning, and this is where we would be helping, all of your leadership make sure that they have all the skills and strategies in place to lead, to utilize, to inform and build capacity. And on the right hand side, you've got the curriculum strategy planning.

And this is where we would be able to go in and make sure that you have all the strategies in your toolbox to create and share curriculum content. Again, looking at engaging students through all of that visual course design, making sure that things are accessible, equitable, leveraging any external content that you have invested in to make sure that you're getting that return on investment. And any considerations for developing and maintaining any shared content, making sure that that is all, in compliance with all of your requirements, at your institution. These would be examples from, if you were working with a learning analytics consultant with some of our data features or tools, So making sure that you have a data informed approach, making sure that we are, aligning tightly to your initiatives and providing those insights that are going to drive and inform your decision making, making sure that you've got, communication that's customized to really make sure that all of your stakeholders feel informed all points of the adoption, making sure that we're increasing specific LMS features and external tools. So if you know that you're starting off with home pages or template utilization or specific, maybe you've purchased studio, and you wanna make sure that your instructors and your students are utilizing those features, then we would be able to increase the the utilization, the adoption with specific metrics around that.

And be able to give great reporting to all the people that wanna hear that data story. The last piece is also making sure that we are able to assess your program impact at every level. So from the beginning of where you're at, along the way those milestones that you wanna hit, and then also knowing when you need to go to the next level of strategy in that inquiry cycle. Alright. And the next piece is me too, training and professional learning.

I'm not on this side as much, but I'm gonna give you some examples here. And this is specifically how we ensure faculty understand how to use and apply and structure products. I think we have a question before I go on. It's okay. Yeah.

For sure. The use cases you just went through. I know there's two words. It depends. What's a typical time frame of engagement with a client? So the really nice thing is we offer when you work with us, you're asking, the the typical time frame.

We give you lots of different options. We have bundled packages, depending on where you are on your Canvas implementation. Sometimes you can have a bundled package that gives you fifty hours to work with a strategic consultant. You can always buy that package as part of your implementation. You can add on additional time.

You can do hourly. We usually have a minimum of ten hours. But usually in the first year, we see, and we not recommend at least a minimum of fifty hours with strategic. And then any of those other pieces, like, for instance, with an instructional designer, that really depends on how much to to what degree do you do you wanna develop something on your own and you need some coaching on that, or do you want us build something for you? Do you wanna spill one template? Do you want many? It really just it it does. Like you've mentioned, it does depend.

But creating, buying a bucket of consulting hours, typically a fifty. In the first year getting you started should should get you a really nice plan going. And some execution. We we also if you feel like it's gonna be a bigger project than that, we also offer dedicated consultants that would work with you full time. So they would be, you know, forty hours a week to your institution of, yeah, well, thirty two hours a week to your institution, to you know, do whatever you needed in that and and be able to meet those those needs on a, you know, regular basis.

And they can support you in all infrastructure products with all your initiatives it's, like, hiring another staff member. Exactly. And we offer that for strategic and instructional design. Yeah. Great question.

Alright. So on the, training and professional learning side of things, this is primarily going to be training And and the really nice thing is that you can customize these menus to really target the training, and the modalities that you our best for your staff, right, for your faculty. So we provide that foundational product knowledge. We make sure that, those service, the services are, the ones that are being selected really are those that are not just blanket, that it's really differentiated, making sure that each each individual has those supports, depending on where their level of adoption is. And making sure that, if it if it's not just basic training that you want, we have many other options that we have, the professional learning, for leadership, for admin, and then for all of the features that that we offer.

So here you see we have, the the on-site and virtual training. We also have the live webinar training and then the training services portal. So lots of different ways to access, and those modalities are available for training. And these are you know, we have our amazing instructor community, and there's so many resources there. But sometimes you have folks that just want a little bit more direction.

They want demonstrations. They want modeling. They want somebody there to ask them questions, or maybe the reading aspect is not what really meets them. They wanna go in and they wanna watch a webinar. So those those options are there for you.

And you can purchase those, for your for your faculty. Here's some training examples. These are, menus that we offer. So in the case of someone who wanted that consistency with those templates, and they wanted to not put so much of that work on the faculty. They could push blueprints.

And in this case, here's an example of a training, that you could select from our menu of trainings that would allow you to support your faculty when you push out those templates through the blueprint. The other example here is one for accessibility. So we offer an amazing, series of courses on making sure that your instructors or, instructional designers are where they need to be around accessibility. So those are two topics that would be really important in in creating a prehensive, accessible and blueprinted, experience. Some of them are.

Yeah. So some of them so the one that was back here, let me go back. So the live webinar training, that can be a subscription. And then the training services portal is a subscription. The first one that could be, any combination or, on-site or virtual training.

It it depends on how you want that delivered. Yeah. If you want your your instructors to go into our portal and, sign up for webinars that happen regularly, then you would want that subscription. If you wanted us to either come on-site, or you wanted us to deliver that same content. Virtually, we could do that.

It just depends on do you want one and done, or do you want ongoing. So you have different options there. Mhmm. Yeah. Great question.

Alright. Sorry. There's a lot here. I'm not sure if you've heard of this, but, we do offer, some really amazing professional courses around the Canvas certified educator and Canvas certified technical admin. And so these are phenomenal courses, they do require almost master level work, but this is a really great option for your folks who have gotten to the next level.

And they're like, we really want deep support, connection, collaboration, communication around working with others in an asynchronous environment, build an amazing community, build out relevant plans that you're gonna be able to apply day one. Our CCE programs are phenomenal. And and we now have this huge, segment of alumni, that have spoken that that has really has changed the way that they use Canvas. And the CCE program is customized to higher ed and or k twelve. And so you can go into the programs that are unique for your institution, or you can do this, Canvas certified technical admin track.

Which is more for, like, the backside, right, of of the management process. So they are amazing, amazing courses, and we would love to, share more about those if you're interested. Yeah. Yeah. Definitely.

And you got the expert here with us today. She's not in the room with us, but we can definitely, let you yeah. Yeah. And you can buy as many seats as you want. And even if you've been using cameras for a long time, and you consider yourself a very well seasoned admin, or an instructor, we have found that everybody has found something in this program.

Absolutely. Absolutely. It's a good place to start. Because it's got a lot of foundational skills. With admin.

I would start with the admin. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Because the the CCE is not learning how to use the basics of Canvas.

It's the application and the connection between the tool and the, yeah, you need the admin. So the CCTA would be perfect for you. Yeah. Alright. Here are some more applications there, in relation to the original use case that we did.

So here, we would say in this case, any combination of the on demand training, subscription webinars, custom training, or training on sites, and the CCE would be a good set of options for that use case and probably as many of the ones that you were thinking of earlier. Alright. I'm gonna hand it over to Britney. We have about fifteen more minutes. I'm sorry.

I or something to be done. No. You're good. So I I get to do the instructional design part because that's my role. So instructional design is is so much.

Like, we encompass so much when our instructional design. I know that that a lot of institutions have their own instructional designers, so there's a lot of times that we work with institutions groups, but we also work directly with faculty and the admin. So, you know, when we think about instructional design, our goal is how do we provide faculty with consistent, right, consistent, clear quality quality. I'm gonna repeat that one because that one's really important. Courses to learners because the goal here is that students don't have to learn how to use the application.

They don't have to learn how to use Canvas, but whether they are demonstrating their mastery, through the activities that the instructor has provided. Right? So that's my job as an instructional designer is to help lay out those courses. So the cognitive burden is not on how do I submit my assignment, but how do I engage in what this faculty is asking me to do? Right? That's where the load should be. So we help to, scaffold and build courses. We provide consultations.

We do all kinds of things, like I said, directly with admin or with faculty, themselves to, go through that instructional design process. Thank you. Yes. Go for it. Yeah.

Go for it. In the k twelve realm, can you include standards, state standards, and that In the k twelve realm, can we include standards in the instructional design? Is that the question? Yes. Absolutely. Absolutely. Because that that is essential, and you'll see a lot of what we do.

We're gonna loop back to the standards in our instructional design for everything. Right? Like, we're calling on that frequently throughout the course, because that's what the learners intended to learn. Yeah. So, in our instructional design, we a lot of times, we'll typically start with a template because when customers implement, they will most likely get, a ready made template as a part of their implementation bundle that's pretty common. Anybody have ready made template? So if you're not sure what the ready made templates are, they can be purchased aside from implementation too.

And it's basically a pre made template that will get you started. Right? But let's say you don't wanna go that path, you want something that's customized to your institution, we can go through a custom template. So that's something that's branded looks like what you want it to look and feel like or your institution does, and that can be shared out. So those are kind of the two pathways there. Like I said, we offer consultations and course evaluations, and I'll get more into this in just a second.

And then we offer some course design packages. So this is gonna be, like, kind of the we take your content and build the course for you out of it. And that can be on all kinds of different levels too. And then we actually offer an entire course on accessibility. So kinda like the CCE program, we don't facilitate it, but we give it to you to facilitate with your faculty.

And it's an amazing course as well that I'm happy to share more about too. So, our instructional design team, we're we're we're very, we live we live in the house. So when we think about instructional design, our menu of options kind of, follows into one of these categories. So when we look at a course review, think about it as like a home inspection. So we're looking through the course to decide, you know, does it meet the criteria that it's supposed to meet? And we use typically the course evaluation checklist, which I'll show you in just a second too.

This next level up would be like a course enhancement. So we wanna remodel it. We wanna kinda spruce it up, make it look a little bit better, a little bit cleaner, provide maybe a little bit more interactive ability to it, so we're enhancing that content. Course build, you're gonna start from scratch, we're happy to take that on for you, and we will build it from the ground up, any way you like. Course creation.

This is, this is kind of a new pathway for us but we are getting into actually building content. So if you need help writing it from our subject matter experts, we are happy to be the architect of that and help you construct that you can work with our subject matter experts to build content in Canvas. And then we, also work with a curriculum and strategy coaching So if you're more of the do it yourself, we will give you all of our best tips and practices and show you kind of the insider knowledge so that you can do that and take that back to your own institution. So these all kind of fit into this one of those categories. So we're gonna go through kind of circle back to that example use case.

Right? We wanna build, that strategy plan. So custom already made templates. This is actually a custom template for higher ed, if you can't tell. We leverage a lot in our custom templates. We focus a lot on UDL.

And so a lot of our templates are going to have some of these consistent elements. You're gonna get kind of sample pages, sample, overview, wrap ups, assignments, discussions, things like that that follow the best case practices so that the goal is your faculty can take duplicate those pages and build that course quickly. That that's the goal of that template. Obviously, with a beautiful homepage too. Course builds.

If you've got content no matter where it's at, you got it in a, Google Doc, PowerPoint, Google slide, PDF doesn't matter where it's at. You would like us to build those courses, we will take it and turn it into a Canvas course for you. And so this is kind of an example of that. It started with just a bunch of slides. And it turned into a campus course.

And so here's a couple more examples of that, you know, go go on, Lauren. Yeah. So we've got we love our home pages. Right? We want a good landing spot for students to land. We want a variety of instructional design, content, course activities, So you've got some progress bars here that you're seeing.

You've got videos that are engaging. We're laying out those, outcomes what they're expecting to do each week in the course. Keep going. Clear module structure naming conventions are huge for us. So we want very clear, naming conventions.

So we work with you to build out that module and how that's gonna lay out. We want a course card on there, so it's recognizable for students when they log in to Canvas. We, you know, love our, collaboration aspect so adding in discussions, and then assignments, kind of incorporating some of those rubrics and grading strategies that will make it a little bit easier for faculty to, deliver these course builds. So this was kind of one taken oh, let me go back one. Yeah.

So go back one. And you can see, how how we take those courses in instructional design, and it's very themed throughout. Right? Like, it's very cohesive course, and that's our goal. Cause, again, we want the focus to be on the learning, not on how to use the platform. So course reviews, I mentioned that.

This is kind of where you have a course and you're not sure how it kind of falls. Is it is it a quality course? I mentioned that at the beginning. Is it a quality? Our course evaluation checklist. This is free, by the way, in the Canvas community. You can just do a search for Canvas course evaluation checklist.

And you're gonna see two versions now. So we had version two point o came out in twenty nineteen, and it was written by an amazing, group of people, including Dion Johnson, shout out. And, basically, what they did was they broke down categories of what we consider, essentials elements to course design, best practices, so that kinda that level up, and then exemplary parts of a canvas course. And so you can take these course evaluation checklist and use them and, edit them and make them your own content of what you would like to see for your own institution, or if you would like our support, we are happy to do evaluations for you. And then consult with you or the faculty to kind of review what we found.

Right? So initially, we had, like I said, the version two point o in twenty nineteen, and, very recently, as in, like, three days ago, we officially released version three point o. And so we're super excited about this because the addition was, something happened a few years ago. I'm sure you kind of remember about twenty twenty, March, there was a lot of changes that occurred, and that have occurred, you know, in course design and building. So we've seen a shift. Right? And so what we've what we've realized in the last few years is that we wanted to to, collect that shift.

And so what we've done in version three point o is we've added in a lot of curriculum and content pieces. So it's that added in quality, into our course evaluation checklist, not that it wasn't there before, but we've kind of enhanced it and called certain pieces of it. So it grew a little bit. It's a little bit longer than the first batch. But we didn't increase any of the foundational skills.

It's just, those are still, like, highlighted, what we've done is kind of added in some best practices and then those exemplars. So both versions are available in the community for you. They link back to each other. So if you do a search and find version two point o, you should be able to link back to version three point o now too. This goes back to that strategic piece of of assessing and evaluation.

Right? So you could either start with this to build, and it could be your outcomes. Or you can go back and evaluate, and then cycle back through the inquiry cycles to see how you could improve the of your design. So it really could be an entry point or it could be the point at which you're cycling back. So it it's I always recommend this is an amazing place for everyone to start. Yeah.

Go grab it from the community. And then we talked about curriculum coaching. So, we have a whole group of subject subject matter experts as well that if you're just not really sure where to start and you want some coaching for do I build curriculum in Canvas? Our coaches would be happy to help, work with your institution to, deliver that. And that's kind of that DIY. Right? Like, we wanna know how to do it ourselves, so learn from our experts.

So instructional design applied. Like I said, a lot of times, our our institutions will start with that template. That kind of is foundational point. We wanna kinda build that first because that sets the expectations for everything moving forward. We love our consultations.

That gives you kind of access into our insider knowledge, our best practices. We've all been using campus for a really long time. So how do people at instructure build campus courses. So that's that consultation. Again, we we build, course packages.

So you can, we we can do it as simple or as glamorous as you would like it to be, and I can show examples of all the in betweens. So if you've got ton content, you just need it out, we're happy to help that that as well. And then kinda like we mentioned earlier, if you feel like this is something that you wanna do on a regular basis because you want support, and this even if you do have instructional designers at your institution, you may still find a, a use case for having a dedicated instructional designer. So that's, again, somebody that is dedicated They only work with your institution. They'll build courses.

They'll build templates. They'll coach your faculty. They'll do all those consultations too. I didn't mention it, but there's also the equivalent in a strategic dedicated as well. So if you needed, another person on deck to really help you with with all the strategic decisions, that those are available.

And we do have plenty of institutions that have strategic dedicated and an instructional design dedicated. Yep. So let's take it back to the beginning. Remember when I asked you, to think about some of your challenges and think about as Britney and I were going through our services within instructional design, within strategic, and then also training and professional learning. Which of these might resonate with you, how can we help support you achieve those goals within that challenge? Anybody wanna share some things that they're thinking about? Maybe make sure you're number one.

I'm happy to come down and You know, we're getting close on time too, Lauren. We only got a couple of minutes. I know. We got two minutes. Can you share what you're thinking? Where which direction are you going in? My my thought is I have to see what's in our contract first.

Well, we're already but let's say if you had all the the the money in the world, what which one do you think you would choose? Yeah. I I would The first one. This is all of them. That's the right answer. Which one first? Which one would you prioritize? I would prioritize, the design.

We we have a lot of strategy people, but I would the design, we have curriculum people So I I Yeah. And that's fantastic. Knowing where you're at assessing your current state and seeing where your areas where support would really take you to the next level that what we're here to help you with. How about you? Yeah, I guess design as well, because we're a little short staffed on our instructional designers. We'll be glad to help you out.
