My name is Troy Knox. I'm the principal at McPherson Elementary School here in Napa. I've been the principal here for the past three years. I arrived the fall of 2015 and when I received the test scores we knew that we had to do something differen. In math, only 3 percent of our students scored proficient or advanced. In math, we went from 3 percent to 29 percent.

In language arts we went from 18 percent in 2015 to that we couldn't have maybe visualize just three years ago. When this Mastery Connect came on and Troy piloted it with us. I was like yes, this is what I've been waiting for. If you want to see great results you have to have specific and targeted and quick feedback. Before we had Mastery Connect it could take me up to a week to correct 32 math test and you know do the item analysis.

And now with the students submit their answers and boom the data's right there and I could start an intervention the next day. We love data because we know it's going to help our students improve. We believe all our kids can be successful like truly successful and proficient and go to college and no matter how they come to us we know we can get them there. And so we have that belief and that that goes along with the data. Today they were taking their end of year final.

Just a quick snapshot of different standards throughout the year that they've learned to kind of see their progress. The 80 percent. Yeah. So as they finish I pulled them over one by one and we conference which is what we've done all year long. But today was a little different and took a little longer because not only did we conference on how they did today but we got to see on the computer how they did for the entire year.

You hate it to all be about numbers like you want it to be about the kid the authentic teaching but it's amazing just to see how well they're doing. Like you're so proud of them. What do you see? Growth. So it's just that that one on one conversation with peace which is amazing. I mean building relationships is one of the highest priorities of being in the teaching profession.

And if you don't have those relationships I mean you can't really make the impact so. Because we have this tool to inform our instruction on a day to day basis we're really able to explode our growth. And I feel like we're changing the culture of our school and we're changing the perceptions of what people have in McPherson. I've been here for 10 years. I've been here for 10 years because I love it.

I love the family as I love the students and I love the opportunity to give and to see that growth that the students make. And sometimes students don't realize even that they're making that growth until they take the time to look back that is what I want to do. I want to help people. Get to that point where they can feel successful and take off and go.
