EMEA Further Education Case Study: City of Glasgow College We speak with Joe Wilson MA, PGCE, DipEd, MBA, Head of Digital Skills at City of Glasgow College about why the College switched to Canvas, the challenges faced with a previous VLE and the vision for future digital learning and teaching at the institution. City of Glasgow College is Scotland's largest technical and professional skills college. Its award-winning twin-site super campus in the heart of Glasgow offers outstanding resources and opportunities for students to gain essential skills for their future careers. Innovative approaches to learning and teaching enable personalised development across a range of subjects on campus and online. Tell us A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR institution... City of Glasgow is firmly focused on the importance of our learning and teaching approach and puts our students' college experience at the forefront of everything we do. Our previous platform was self-hosted and unable to meet the growing academic needs of staff and students. The goal was to implement a cloud-based platform capable of delivering immersive and compelling learning materials with effective analytics to support personalised and blended learning alongside it. Canvas was selected following a rigorous competitive procurement exercise. We believe it will support our diverse and increasingly globally distributed learning and teaching community. It integrates well with our existing systems and those we plan to roll out in future, and it supports our plans for blended learning, teaching and assessment. We were particularly impressed by the Canvas Commons repository and the opportunities this will bring our academic teams when working with college partnerships in Scotland, the UK and worldwide. In the last ten years alone, City of Glasgow College is proud to have enabled over 100,000 graduates acquire recognised qualifications, and to have engaged with employers, business, industry, and education partners to build a diverse curriculum delivered by expert staff. Strong working relationships forged across numerous sectors benefit not only our students, but also our partners.
