HIGHBURY COLLEGE Why Canvas? Highbury College Case Study Portsmouth, UK 2,984 Users Commenced September 2014 The Challenge Highbury College, Portsmouth has an ambitious vision. The college wants to be a world-class learning enterprise, transcending borders, transforming and enriching lives. Focused squarely on employability, Highbury works with students from all walks of life to inspire ambition and create sustainable futures, while also supporting local businesses and serving diverse stakeholder communities. Highbury is recognised for excellence locally, nationally, and internationally. Since day one, Highbury has tried to harness the transformative power of technology to deliver inspiring teaching and learning experiences. In 2014 they decided to overhaul their VLE in order to enable better collaboration and to enhance teaching. Highbury started to look for a state-of-the-art platform which could deliver a great experience to teachers and students alike, resulting in highly trained graduates who can positively impact local industry. Highbury College was using an outdated VLE that wasn't helping students learn effectively. They were looking to modernise and wanted a learning platform better suited to their changing needs - that's when they discovered Canvas. Canvas was able to help students at Highbury College more effectively reach their potential, while making it easier for the staff to create engaging content The students loved that Canvas helped them easily keep track of their learning and goals, while the instructors praised Canvas for being mobile, allowing students to learn anywhere. After implementing Canvas, Highbury College won the award for 'outstanding use of technology for improving teaching and learning' at the annual TES FE awards. Anna Selway, Head of Digital Central, said "Our previous VLE was an aid for the teacher, not the student. It had limited functionality, and it was clear that as we grew, we needed something which would support us in a more comprehensive way. We were looking for a system which could drive true connectedness, empower students, and deliver a rounded educational experience that would prepare young people for a life of learning." instructure.com/canvas/en-gb
