The 2021 State of Student Success and Engagement in Higher Education report for the EMEA region highlights a significant shift toward a more holistic, student-centered approach to learning. While academic rigor remains a priority, there is a growing consensus among students and educators that career readiness, student well-being, and high-quality faculty are the true pillars of success. Despite these shared goals, a notable perception gap exists: while 75% of administrators feel they are effectively supporting their students, only 56% of students agree. This disconnect underscores the urgent need for institutions to better align their digital tools and support services with the actual needs of their diverse learner populations.

Technology has transitioned from a temporary pandemic fix to a permanent foundation for modern education. For 88% of respondents, the effective use of a Learning Management System (LMS) is the top driver of student engagement, followed closely by the availability of recorded lectures and easy access to digital course materials. However, the report also sheds light on the socioeconomic barriers that continue to hinder progress, particularly the "digital divide" where one in four students struggles with unreliable internet access. As institutions in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa look toward the future, the focus is clear: leverage flexible, hybrid learning models to bridge these gaps and empower every student to succeed in an increasingly digital workforce.
