Beyond the Canvas: Glory Puljak
There’s plenty of love in this room.
More than 8,000 institutions partner with Instructure for everything teaching and learning.
As school head, the ability to have a one-stop shop and everything handy is our way of supporting our teachers, who are frontliners. Our work as admins is to make their lives easier by providing tools like Canvas.
We use technology to learn, to collaborate, to experiment and to go through experiential learning. Canvas brings those things together.
Canvas supported OLFU's objective of delivering instruction innovatively and flexibly yet in a structured and easy-to-navigate system. It is teaching and learning made convenient and accessible.
We essentially evaluated the four main LMSs. When we came down to the final assessment it really came down to user friendliness, the simplicity that we saw in terms of building capabilities to use the LMS, and the student and staff engagement part of it.
Canvas is just so intuitive and easy for our students to use compared to other learning management systems we’ve used or looked at in the past.
We didn’t want a system that required a specialist to operate. With Canvas, our educators can focus on teaching, not tech. It’s so intuitive. We’ve got trainers who were nervous about digital learning now confidently guiding classes through Canvas and supporting students online.
One of our favourite things about Canvas is the small barrier to adoption. You are up and running quickly with little help. However, in that simplicity comes a lot of power. It’s a great learning environment we have here. People are taking on technology, and Canvas has become part of the language.
There’s really no competition between the two systems. Canvas is the clear winner. They’ve thought of everything students and lecturers need. It’s helped me make uni work for my life.
