(upbeat percussive music) - Hello, my name is Francisco Sanchez, location technology manager of the University Francisco de Vitoria. Welcome to the "Digital Knowledge Management in Canvas. " And first, I would like to thank you for following this presentation in which I am going to introduce some strategies related to our experience in technology accompaniment in our university. Before we start, I would like to comment something about this speech, just a clue. We will see all the things I will introduce directly on our platform. So this is a kind of showroom more than a wordy or a static presentation.

Well. We released Canvas in 2020, and during this challenging, but exciting years, we have designed a solid strategy to facilitate digital transformation in learning. We are in the pursuit of autonomy. We wish to allocate the student precisely to the heart of the education process, being the protagonist of what he learns, the holy grail, my friends. Then, let's see this strategy, let's see the movements in the Canvas chess board.

Remember, as I previously said, we will see these movements on the chess board directly, not in this presentation. Initiatives. We first need to explain one by one our deeply thought out initiatives. So I'm going to divide them by role, teacher and student. Above all, teachers use the king of our courses, virtual-lab.

What is that? A course directed to create and serve knowledge about education technology. Its design reminds the user the idea of laboratory, in terms of experimenting with digital tools in Canvas. Virtual-lab has tons of easy, findable guides and video tutorials. We have been focused in develop a solid, coherent, and integrative user experience based on navigability and simple design. It's important to note that we decide to base the design on the inherent seasonality of each period in our university, the beginning of the course, exams, and so on.

In other words, we add shortcuts to the tutorials needed in every period. Furthermore, we provide a laboratory, a real laboratory, which is a Canvas course for each teacher. Let's say a kind of sandbox to let them experiment. Another important initiative is our guided sessions, August and Christmas is our out of office. As a summary, let's say we provide techno-pedagogical and individualized counseling to each teacher.

Besides, we usually use forums or announcements for teachers. And last but not least, we are using Impact. It's a powerful tool to create contextual and direct info for users using messages on Canvas pages. For our department it's an excellent tool to connect directly and in their known platform with our users to offer them information in terms of deadlines, new functionalities, protocols, et cetera. All this strategy is effective thanks to our prioritization and research of knowledge management.

At this point, let's see these courses in action. So I'm going to show you in our Canvas. First of all, virtual-lab. This is our page, our main page. So, as I said, here you have all the teacher need for, in this case, the beginning of the course.

So, I don't know, how to copy a course into another. I think there is a course, I need to be enrolled, or how to unify one course in another, this kind of thing. How to publish a course. All these things are in this box. So the teacher has a shortcut with a link that directly access to the tutorials.

Besides, here we have the more popular tutorials. So this could be very useful for the teachers. Their teachers, sorry. Here, in this box, we have all our guided sessions. And at the bottom of the page, we could find technological tools for the teacher.

For example, our ticketing system, our intranet office, the university portal, or technology in the classroom. Besides, here we have the laboratory. Every teacher use a laboratory, as I said. So, we can see. .

. I'm sorry. I'm going to introduce our laboratories. So, for example, this is a teacher and here we have her laboratory. So the teacher experiment with this course in their Canvas page.

So it's really useful for every teacher to experiment with every functionality, every tool in Canvas. I'm gonna show you right now Impact. As I said, Impact is a powerful tool that brings us contextual information for the users. For example, if I want to show a message in the dashboard, this could be the Impact message. How? Well, it's so easy.

You just need to open the editor, select the page, and then create a message. You can create a pop-up or as a straight message at the bottom of the page and the title, title, and the body of the message. And this message will appear on every dashboard of every teacher. So it's really, really, really powerful. And you can edit or you can manage all the messages here in this editor.

So, for example, I just want to edit these messages. There is a mode where you can edit with HTML or CSS. So it's really interesting. It's a tool provided by the instructor that we really appreciated. So, on Impact, you also can create campaigns.

Campaigns. From one day. With some messages. And you can add persons by role, by groups, or just one person. So this is the main use for campaigns.

And that's all, let's move to our presentation. For the students, we also use forum and announcement and Impact with the same purpose. But they have their own course. The virtual lab for students is the so-called vive la ufv. All the students are enrolled in this course.

It contains all the necessary info for them apart from technology orientation. Let's take a look to vive la ufv. It looks nice. So here we have, for example, as we are in the beginning of the course, we offer the students welcome back or the welcome week. So here, in the welcome week, we provide them with all the things they should know.

Deadlines, tools, and all the things they should know. For example. Furthermore, we offer technology orientation with our tools. This is our ticketing system, orientation about Blackboard Collaborate or Zoom or Respondus. Or what is Canvas? How can they download the Canvas app.

How to change personal email, how to change their profile, pick how to search my courses, how to manage notifications, and tons of things the students should use or should know. This is the main page of the course and the design reminds the Lego play. So it's nice and it's really powerful and useful for the students. Well, at this point. .

. Sorry. At this point, some nice and quick statistics. For example, more than 30,000 views in virtual-lab. More than 700 posts in our forum.

and 165 tutorials in our knowledge base. It's incredible. This is our work, our effort. And all this for effort dealed interesting and quick outcomes. So first, the number of tickets opened in our ticketing system decreased in 2021 by more than 15%, as you can see in this graphic.

And another lovely graphic, user perception of Canvas has increased significantly. As you can imagine, we are so, so proud of all this data. And that's all. If you find this speech interesting or helpful, I'll be honestly grateful. So thank you so much. Bye.

During the two-year project to implement a digital learning ecosystem with Canvas, UFV designed a strategy to facilitate digital transformation in education. A series of initiatives have been launched to support the people involved in the teaching and learning process including:

  • Self-learning and self-management courses that allow people to be autonomous and grow in their digital competence.
  • Experimentation spaces where they can put learning into practice and be innovative without fear of error.
  • Personalized support in weekly tutoring sessions that allow teachers to receive technological and pedagogical advice.
  • Community problem-solving through a forum where teachers can raise issues or volunteer to help resolve their colleagues' issues.
  • Implementation of a training plan synchronized with each stage of the teaching-learning process.
  • Coordination and communication spaces by user groups (students or teachers).
  • Announcement of important milestones during the course through the different Canvas communication channels.
  • Information campaigns through Impact that bring important messages to the community in the right place at the right time.
