Instructure Events Policies & Code of Conduct

Instructure is committed to providing a welcoming, productive, harassment-free environment for all InstructureCon and CanvasCon participants, including attendees, presenters, sponsors, and Instructure staff members regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. While we encourage discussion and conversation as an integral part of InstructureCon, we will not tolerate harassment or disruptive actions in any form.

By participating in InstructureCon or CanvasCon, you are agreeing to abide by this Code of Conduct:

Expected Behavior

  1. Be considerate, respectful, and collaborative.
  2. Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory or harassing behavior and speech (both verbal and written).
  3. Alert event organizers if you notice any behavior that is not aligned with this code of conduct by emailing canvascon.eu@instructure.com.

Unacceptable Behavior

Unacceptable behaviors may include but are not limited to:

  1. Harassment and discrimination, which includes any verbal, physical, or visual conduct based on sex, sexual orientation, gender expression or identity, transgender status, race, age, national origin, disability. Inappropriate use of nudity and/or sexual images; deliberate intimidation, stalking or following; harassing, photography or recording; sustained disruption of sessions, talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact, and any unwelcome sexual attention.
  2. Any boisterous, lewd or offensive behavior or language, using sexually explicit or offensive language or conduct, profanity, obscene gestures, or racial, religious or ethnic slurs.
  3. Wearing clothing in video or photos that is not suitable for a professional work environment, that is provocative, inappropriate or otherwise potentially offensive.
  4. Failure to obey any of the rules or regulations of the event or instructions of the event staff.
  5. Recording or distributing audio or visual recordings of the event without prior consent.

Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior

Unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated. Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in unacceptable behavior, Instructure may take any action we deem appropriate, up to and including expulsion from the event without warning or refund and if appropriate involvement of local law enforcement. Breaches of this Code of Conduct can also result in disqualification from participating in future events.

How to Report Unacceptable Behavior or Suspicious Person/Behavior. Remember to See Something, Say Something

If you experience or witness a life safety emergency, please contact the event staff and  local authorities. If you have a complaint or concern about harassment, discrimination, bullying or any other conduct that violates this Code of Conduct, we encourage you to contact us immediately. If you witness this happening to someone else, please report that, too. You may request that your report remain completely confidential.

Video and Photo Consent

When you enter InstructureCon or CanvasCon you enter an area where photography, audio, and video recording may occur.

By entering the event premises, you consent to interview(s), photography, audio recording, video recording and its/their release, publication, exhibition, or reproduction to be used for news, web casts, promotional purposes, advertising, inclusion on websites, social media, or any other purpose by Instructure. Images, photos and/or videos may be used to promote similar Instructure events in the future, highlight the event and/or market Instructure products and services. 

You release Instructure, its officers and employees, and each and all persons involved from any liability connected with the taking, recording, digitizing, or publication and use of interviews, photographs, computer images, video and/or sound recordings.

Photography is encouraged, but other attendees must be given a reasonable chance to opt out from being photographed. If they object to the taking of their photograph, comply with their request. It is inappropriate to take photographs in contexts where people have a reasonable expectation of privacy (e.g., in bathrooms).

By entering the event premises, you waive all rights you may have to any claims for payment of royalties in connection with any use of these materials, regardless of the purpose of such use, and irrespective of whether a fee for admission is charged. You also waive any right to inspect or approve any photo, video, or audio recording taken by Instructure or the person or entity designated to do so by Instructure.

You have been fully informed of your consent, waiver of liability, and release before entering the event.

Ticket Discounts

Please note that any discounts offered in connection with ticket purchases for CanvasCon are provided solely for legitimate commercial or promotional purposes and in full compliance with applicable laws and regulations. It is the responsibility of each participant to ensure they have obtained all necessary internal approvals and that accepting the discount does not conflict with their organization’s internal policies or any applicable legal obligations.

Non-Disclosure Acknowledgement

By attending InstructureCon or CanvasCon, you represent and warrant that you will behave in a respectful, professional and appropriate way for the duration of the event, and that you will not engage in any conduct which violates applicable laws.

You further represent and warrant that the purpose of your attendance at InstructureCon or CanvasCon is to learn, network, and collaborate, and not for the purpose of directly or indirectly obtaining Instructure trade secrets or confidential information to aid or assist in benchmarking, reverse engineering, using or causing or allowing a third- party to in any way develop competing products or services, or any other deceptive or unfair trade practice.

You further represent and warrant that you will not hide or otherwise conceal your identity or affiliation with an Instructure competitor, whether through a private email address or other means, to enable yourself or any third party to gain access to the event.

Any violation of this section may cause irreparable harm to Instructure, and it may seek injunctive or other equitable relief in addition to any damages to which Instructure may be entitled. Instructure reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to limit or deny access to the event to any entity or individual.

We want you to connect, learn, collaborate, and make great memories this week. However, we ask that you not obtain Instructure trade secrets or confidential information to aid or assist in benchmarking, reverse engineering, using or causing or allowing a third-party to in any way develop competing products or services, or any other deceptive or unfair trade practice. We also ask that you will not hide or otherwise conceal your identity or affiliation with an Instructure competitor, whether through a private email address or other means, to enable yourself or any third-party to gain access to our event.
