New edtech tools have the incredible potential to elevate teaching and learning. There are more quality products than ever before, and making connections between district needs and digital learning solutions is critical. Technology coaches, curriculum and instructional directors, and digital learning specialists constantly juggle budget management, existing edtech ecosystems and exploring new solutions while also asking key questions about edtech implementation and value:

  • Who needs to be involved in the edtech decision making process?

  • Do educators in my district use tools as we think they do? How do they feel about the tools currently available? 

  • Are the tools I’m selecting for my district actually impacting student outcomes? For which student groups? Under what conditions?

  • How can I make the process of vetting and purchasing new edtech more efficient?

These are just some of the many questions districts can ask when building, maintaining and optimizing an effective edtech ecosystem. The integration of new programs and tools looks different across districts and states based on evidence, processes, systems and structures needed. This guide is (and should be) the beginning of a conversation among relevant teams in your district, as there is no one “right” way to do this work.
