The Tennessee Department of Education has awarded the contract for its TEAM student growth portfolio, student Work-Based Learning, and educator micro-credential ePortfolio systems to Portfolium, Inc., the only Student Success Network.

Portfolium’s TNPortfolio platform, which can accommodate up to 500,000 users, will allow Tennessee teachers to demonstrate the impact of classroom instruction on student growth through the TEAM student growth portfolio, allow students to demonstrate the value of the education they’re receiving through work-based learning, and allow educators to acquire and maintain micro-credentials earned through personalized professional learning. The TEAM Portfolio element of the platform will be available for teacher use starting August 24; other elements of the platform will be available for use during the 2019-20 school year.

TEAM student growth portfolios

In supporting the TEAM student growth portfolios, Portfolium provides enhanced functionality that will automate several processes associated with their development. Educators can easily create a content or grade-level portfolio, quickly upload student work samples from a variety of cloud services, score these samples using intuitive online tools, and submit portfolios for peer review. The improved TNPortfolio platform will also allow schools to track student work samples longitudinally across multiple years.

Work-based learning portfolio system for students

For students involved in work-based learning, Portfolium stimulates reflection as students align employability skills with evidence of skill acquisition attained during their internships, apprenticeships, job shadows, project-based learning, service learning, and practicum experiences. Skill alignment and reporting on those skills will support assessment of the efficacy of work-based learning (WBL) programs by each district, using the WBL Program Evaluation Framework.

As an additional benefit for Tennessee students seeking higher education or employment after graduation, Portfolium provides a free-for-life ePortfolio that serves as a comprehensive student learning record and “clickable” resume. As students apply to colleges or universities, their ePortfolio will display artifacts that demonstrate mastery of postsecondary and industry-related competencies and support their applications to higher-ed institutions. As students seek job opportunities, the ePortfolio connects them with employers based on evidence of learning aligned to marketable skills.

The highly recognizable social media platform icons and workflows in the platform ensure that students readily adopt Portfolium and seldom require any training. With Portfolium’s robust suite of options for creating high-quality artifacts, students will start displaying evidence of their learning in a system that is free for life for them. They will carry Portfolium through their academic and professional careers, building “clickable resumes,” and connecting with employers. Teachers can assess student artifacts from WBL using the Portfolio Rubric and the Student Skills Assessment Rubric, and then provide feedback to students and request revisions of their artifacts.

Educator micro-credential platform

As Tennessee expands competency-based learning validated by micro-credentials to all educators in the state, Portfolium will allow teachers to submit evidence of learning aligned with professional competencies. When criteria are met, the micro-credential is automatically awarded and displayed in the teacher’s ePortfolio. Micro-credentials can be added to the library at any time and organized into a stackable pathway. As multiple credentials are earned, the pathway is made visual to the educator and reportable to administrators.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Tennessee Department of Education on their TEAM student growth portfolios, work-based learning, and micro-credentialing program for K-12 teachers and students,” said Adam Markowitz, CEO at Portfolium. “Our one-of-a-kind student success network will set Tennessee K-12 students and teachers up for learning and career success.”
