Mary Baldwin University (MBU) has chosen Portfolium’s Student Success Network so their Business and Professional Studies program students can connect learning artifacts with evidence-based assessment, allowing for the creation of pathways linking the student from a classroom and into a career.
Portfolium’s ePortfolio platform and assessment software will initially be utilized to support the university’s Business and Professional Studies bachelor program, which will offer competency-based learning courses focused on career skills and professional development for non-traditional students and adult learners. Through Portfolium, students will gain access to a lifelong digital repository for curricular and co-curricular learning artifacts, all which can be linked to identifiable hard and soft skills certified to align with competencies defined by the National Association of College and Employers (NACE).
Utilizing Portfolium’s groundbreaking Badgelink technology, MBU students will also be able to use Portfolium’s digital badging capabilities to visually track their MBU-certified NACE skills in their ePortfolio networks and through a personal learning pathway that directly guides learners from a classroom and into a career. The university expects to have the Professional Studies program fully launched by January 2019.
“We went with Portfolium because it was built from the ground up to help us efficiently and effectively integrate ePortfolios, assessment, and badging with our existing LMS and SIS,” explained Joe Sprangel, Chief Information Officer at Mary Baldwin University.
Faculty and staff will also benefit from the partnership through Portfolium’s full-integration with the MBU’s current learning management system, Blackboard Learn. This integration will allow MBU to perform course, program, and institution-wide learning outcome assessment for all students once expanded campus-wide.
“Developing constructive and fully-demonstrable ways to bridge the skills gap is one of our greatest priorities at Portfolium,” said Troy Markowitz, VP of Academic Partnerships at Portfolium, “Which is why we’re incredibly excited to support Mary Baldwin University in the roll out of their Professional Studies program and the hundreds of non-traditional learners that it will positively impact.”
