Horizon College & Seminary has selected Portfolium’s Student Success Network to provide all students with a way to connect learning artifacts with assessed competencies in order to track progress along themed, intentional pathways from college to career.
Portfolium’s assessment software and ePortfolios will allow instructors to validate students’ real-world skills embodied in the authentic evidence demonstrated in curricular and co-curricular learning environments, while simultaneously connecting those artifacts to student and program learning outcomes. By populating digital portfolios with robust evidence of skills, students will be able to creatively represent their personalized learning journey which can be showcased to employers, peers and Horizon’s many constituency groups in real-time. Those artifacts and competencies will be also directly searchable by employers via Portfolium’s unique TalentMatch platform.
Following Portfolium’s initial implementation, Horizon will also begin rolling out Portfolium’s digital badging and learning pathways technology, a platform that provides students with the ability to earn micro-credentials and digital badges and automatically have them displayed in ePortfolios searchable by employers. Digital badge issuance will be triggered directly by Portfolium’s assessment software, ensuring that viewers of students’ badges will have full transparency into associated learning outcomes, rubrics and evidence of student work.
The badges will also be issued in connection with the achievement of certain milestones along learning pathways, making it easy to construct intentional learning paths representing varying degrees of depth, breadth, and rigor. By combining badging + assessment + pathways, employers can instantly identify qualified candidates. Horizon also plans to utilize BadgeLink to support their faculty initiative in developing a staff culture of growth, communication, professional development, and corporate accountability.
"As we pioneer competency-based education in Canadian theological education, Portfolium will help us assess, respond to, and showcase the real-world skills and knowledge our students develop through our programs,” said Leanne Bellamy, Faculty Assistance & ePortfolio Program Lead at Horizon.
Due to Portfolium’s all-in-one, “full stack” software, built-in live support, and intuitive user experience, Horizon will be able to launch the Student Success platform with minimal student and faculty training. Horizon currently plans to have the ePortfolio and assessment software launched campus-wide and utilized by September 2018.
“We at Portfolium are excited at any opportunity to provide our platform into any institution, especially those who are at the forefront of their industry,” said Troy Markowitz, VP of Academic Partnerships at Portfolium, “With Horizon’s clear eagerness to embrace innovative educational technology, we know our partnership will be not only fruitful for all Horizon students, but for precedents in academia as a whole.”
