Welcome everyone. In this video series, we will explore the teacher and student day to day experience with Canvas. We will also talk about some of our admin features to help you maximize your LMS capabilities. We hope you enjoy these videos and we look forward to hearing from you. This is Stephen Tan, a fourth year student from the Instructure University. As he logs into his Canvas course, he proceeds immediately to his inbox.
He is anticipating a message from his professor. His finals project is due in a few weeks, so his group is scrambling to get a consultation session with his professor. Thankfully, his professor sets up a schedule for the group consultation. He also noticed that the message was sent in both English and Chinese to accommodate both local and international students. He rushes back to his dashboard knowing that he has a lot of assignments due in the coming days.
Stephen loves to cram. As he enters his course in creative engineering, he is greeted by an announcement from his professor. Dear students, final season is upon us. Oh no, Stephen realizing that the finalist there decides to go into his module and to complete his missing requirements. First stop is the initial video quiz, which was actually given three weeks ago.
On the page was a video prepared by his professor. He turns on his caption just so he can read better and answers the first question. He then proceeds to submit a discussion post as well. Upon entering the discussion, Stephen realizes that he has already submitted a post a few days ago. He enables translation in order to check through his classmates' submissions as well.
He then sees Kevin Anderson, who is a friend he had before he joined Instructure in RST. He decides to reply and then submits. With all this time spent, I think it's better for Stephen to actually finish his video quiz first. As his procrastination habit kicks in, Stephen decides to check his overall progress in Parchment Digital Badges. Parchment Digital Badges is his professor's way of promoting healthy competition.
Stephen sees that he has a lot of missing badges maybe because he did not access Canvas as regularly as he'd hoped. Not that Stephen is a bad student and all, it's more of that he got caught up in extracurricular activities. He has one badge out of seven possible badges and has not completed a pathway. Yikes. He checks his class leaderboard to see how far off he is from his classmates.
Phew! Stephen breathes a sigh of relief and completes his video quiz to end the day. Professor Lim has been with Instructure University for the past ten years. AI has taken over the education space, but he still has some reservations about it. Thankfully, Canvas has been providing reliable AI solutions, which makes his job a lot easier. The first thing he does for any workday is to check his to do list, which has all the assignments he has to go through.
He then checks his calendar. Professor Lim's Canvas calendar is actually integrated with his current calendar in order for him to see any upcoming deadlines in his own work calendar. Upon seeing that everything he has assigned is not yet due for the next few weeks, he decides to go to complete another task. Little does he know that his students have not even started entering his Canvas courses. He then proceeds to his creative engineering course.
He then proceeds to his modules in order to build a quiz. Upon entering the quiz builder, he is first greeted by the rich content editor. The rich content editor contains a myriad of tools that professor Lim can use in order to create content. From uploading images and uploading media files, he can also embed LTI tools in order to make his students' experience a lot easier and seamless. He then proceeds to generate a question with AI.
The first thing that greets him is actually source material. This is part of instructor's effort to ensure ethical AI use. He selects course content as his question source. He selects one of his course content. He also adds a topic focus.
Here, he enters theory as a means of his focus. He then decides to generate the questions. Upon generating the questions, he just realized that it's already final season, so he decides not to build the quiz since he realized that the students might have too much requirements on their hands. He goes back to his modules and decides to go to discussion posts. The first thing he does is to enable translation to ensure that he understands all discussion entries.
The first thing he sees is a discussion summary by the AI. He can also enter an extra prompt here just to ensure that the AI is going through the things that he is looking for. Currently, the question is what is the general feel of the course? And he sees that the AI has said the course appears to be a mix of excitement, nervousness, and anticipation among the students. Seeing that the students are still quite sane and jovial, he proceeds and checking some submissions. He proceeds to the gradebook and whips out the SpeedGrader.
He looks for Stephen's submission who has not submitted in the past couple of days. Upon seeing Stephen's submission, he is quite confused as to why this was submitted. It doesn't seem to be in line with what he is looking for. He decides to use AI's auto evaluate in order to check through the submission. Finally, upon realizing that the students are currently in campus, he decides to check whether the students are actually accessing Canvas.
Upon entering weekly online activity, he sees that a couple of students have been accessing the platform. He decides to inform his students during his face to face lecture to make sure they complete their requirements by the end of the day. The Canvas admin experience provides endless customizability for your Canvas instance. From modifying the environment structure through subaccounts to changing the language Canvas is in by default, we ensure that all admins can make changes to enhance the learning experience. Outcomes is one of the core functions of the admin page, wherein course leaders can create, modify, and push learning outcomes to the courses within their subaccounts.
It is here where institutions would want to specify learning outcomes for courses under their umbrella so that their teachers can simply extract these and add to their own course materials. We also have a built in Apps Hub, which showcases different tools used in education. Canvas has partnered with hundreds of ed tech developers around the world to enhance the learning experience. These tools can be simply integrated into Canvas with a few simple steps. Our Analytics Hub provides users with robust reporting of their environment and overall health.
It includes a filter which allows information to be customized to the minute detail. Analytics Hub provides a general health overview, course usage, student usage overview, and even Intelligent Insights. Our AI data extraction tool, which was previously done through API calls, now made more convenient with a simple chat prompt. Finally, Parchment Digital Badges is our micro credentialing solution that offers your institution a strong credentialing platform. Each institution can create several issuers within their umbrella and having each issuer a unique badging experience.
We also have Pathways, which is an amazing feature that allows issuers to create guided learning experience for their students. Instructure has been on top of their game when it comes to global edtech standards. We would love to hear from you and talk about how we, together, can impact the education space.
