Simple, Smart, Instinctive Integrations

Our open API goes above and beyond LMS integration standards. Schools now have a common entry point for SIS integration and custom applications. Keep your favorite tools while easily integrating new ones, saving time and money (same thing, right?).

“Canvas was nearly perfect. We are a Windows school, and we have Google Apps for every sixth grader and up, and Canvas integrates with both of those seamlessly."

— Matthew Hapke, Network Administrator,
Penn Harris Madison District

Canvas LMS Tools: Integrate Better. Adopt Faster.

Canvas doesn’t just use better tools—it uses tools better. For example, the communication features offer more than just an email inbox; Canvas provides users (students, parents, stakeholders) with a global notifications panel that lets them choose both how they’d like to receive information (via email, text message, or push notification) and when (instantly, daily, weekly, etc.) This convenience means the message gets to the user (and gets read) through their most preferred channels of communication, rather than requiring them to log into the LMS.

The Simple, Useful Kind of Open

The Canvas open API is a web service that gives institutions reliable and flexible access to Canvas data. Our API supports data interactions based on a user's role and permissions within various contexts, e.g. a class, a department, an institution. This approach provides a secure and consistent entry point to Canvas data and endpoints for purposes such as integration with SIS, posting school-wide updates, automating reports, gathering data on classes or interactions, creating custom tools and apps, and other institutional processes.

LTI. The Acronym That Makes You Sound Even Smarter.

The API alone may not be enough for your school's customization of Canvas. Another way to extend Canvas is via Learning Tools Interoperability. Canvas supports the latest version of LTI, LTI Advantage, which is fast becoming the new standard for integrating your tools (whatever tools those may be) in other systems.
