Why is InstructureCon going virtual?
After much consideration for the health and well-being of the global community, we've decided to deliver InstructureCon 2020 as an awesome virtual event and combine it with our regional CanvasCons. Introducing CanvasCon Online!
When is CanvasCon Online being held?
The conference will be a one-day event, held on Thursday, October 15, 2020. This will be a global event with regionally relevant content and three start times for the convenience of all attendees.
What about the other CanvasCon regional events?
This year we are going to consolidate all of our InstructureCon and CanvasCon events into one virtual event.
Will there be specific regional content?
Virtual conference attendees will be able to select from more than 50 breakout sessions, including regional speakers.
What if I can’t make it live?
It won't be the same without you! But don’t worry, you can catch all the keynotes on demand after the event and browse tons of resources at canvascon.com.
How do I register for the virtual conference?
Registering for the virtual conference is easy. Simply go to the registration page, fill in the registration form, and you’re done! The event is free; no registration fee. We can’t wait to see you (virtually, of course).
I registered for the July InstructureCon in Nashville. Do I need to register for the virtual conference?
Yes. Due to the nature of the online conference, there’s no way for us to transfer existing registrations. Please register again. We promise to make it quick and easy.
I registered for the Nashville conference. How do I request a refund and when will it arrive?
If you registered for InstructureCon 2020 in Nashville and would like us to earmark the registration fee for InstructureCon 2021, please email [email protected] with the subject line “InstructureCon 2021 - Move Funds.” If we have not received an email stating you would like your funds moved to 2021 by May 20, you will automatically receive a refund.
The refund process will start on May 20. If you paid via credit card, your refund will take 7–10 days from refund issuance to return to your account. If you paid via invoice, our accounting team will issue you a refund in the form of the check, which may take up to two weeks.
I was so excited about Nashville. Is there a chance of holding InstructureCon there again at some point?
We're right there with you. We were dreaming of cowboy boots, live music, and hours of pedagogical discussion over hot chicken. We're working with our friends in Nashville to see if we can make another year work.
How much is the virtual conference?
CanvasCon Online 2020 is not only virtual, it's free!
Will the original InstructureCon schedule be replicated virtually?
We surveyed our attendees and learned that many of you would prefer a one-day virtual conference. We hear you and are working on building that schedule.
Who are the confirmed keynote speakers?
We are working on the conference agenda now. Come back to canvascon.com for more details in the coming weeks.
Will there be an in-person InstructureCon in 2021?
We're hopeful that the situation will soon begin to improve for everyone around the world. We can’t wait to come back to InstructureCon 2021 stronger than ever and ready to learn, grow, and celebrate together. In the meantime, we're here to support you in any way we can.
When and where will InstructureCon 2021 be held? Can I register for it?
It's too soon to ruin the surprise. Stay tuned!
Is the Educator of the Year Award Program still happening? Is there an extension since the event date has been pushed back?
Yes! Winners in the U.S. will still be announced at our virtual event and will have the chance to be recognized on stage at InstructureCon 2021. More details on the Canvas blog. We are also pushing back the submission deadline to June 30. Keep those nominations coming! We will provide more updates on our global educator of the year awards at a later date on the Canvas blog.
Is the U.S. Student Scholarship Award Program still happening? Is there an extension of time since the event date has been pushed back?
Yes! Winners will be announced at the end of July. Nomination videos can be submitted through June 30.
Will there still be pre-con sessions available for people who registered for them?
Due to the nature of pre-conference sessions, with 1:1 instruction and hands-on learning, we've decided not to host any this year. There will still be plenty of other awesome sessions to choose from!
Will I still be charged for my housing at the Gaylord property? How do I make sure I’m not charged for that?
You'll need to contact the Gaylord Opryland Hotel to cancel your reservation. Instructure is not affiliated with their booking system and is not able to cancel on behalf of any attendee. Their phone number is (615) 889-1000.
I received an email from the Gaylord Opryland Hotel telling me that my reservation has been canceled—is that true? Do I need to do anything else?
You should be all set. If you have any questions or concerns (or just want to triple check), you're welcome to reach out to them directly at (615) 889-1000.
I registered for the virtual event but didn’t receive a confirmation email. Whom do I contact?
Please email [email protected] and we'll be happy to help get this taken care of.
I don't live in any of the timezones mentioned. How do I know when it will start for me?
7am SGT, HKT, PHT.
I was originally accepted as a presenter at InstructureCon. Do I still get to present? What are my next steps?
First of all, thank you so much for submitting a proposal and being willing to present at InstructureCon! Unfortunately, with the new online format, we're not able to accommodate all the amazing sessions we originally planned. As we build the virtual schedule, we'll look for topics that are most relevant to the current education landscape and will translate well to online delivery. We'll be in touch with you personally to let you know the status of your presentation.
I was accepted as a speaker, but can no longer present. What should I do?
Please shoot us a quick email at [email protected] to let us know.
Will I be speaking live at CanvasCon Online or will my session be pre-recorded?
Sessions will be pre-recorded. We'll be in touch with all speakers about recording logistics.
Will I be able to participate in a live Q&A after my pre-recorded session?
Unfortunately, no. We’d love to host your Twitter handle on your presentation, however, to allow attendees to ask questions via Twitter. Also, be sure to participate in our CanvasCon #CanvasChat Twitter Chat to share your edu knowledge more broadly, and don’t forget to participate in the “birds of a feather” sessions to connect with colleagues.
Are there new opportunities for sponsorship now that weren’t available before?
Please reach out to the partnerships team at [email protected] for more information.
I want to learn more about being in the 2020 virtual partner hall. Where can I get more information?
Please reach out to the partnerships team at [email protected] for more information.
I'm from California and was not able to attend the conference in Nashville. I had planned on attending CanvasCon in California in September. Has that been canceled? What are my next steps?

I'm from outside the United States and planned on attending CanvasCon in my region. What are my next steps?

We'll be in touch when we have more info.
