Instructure continues to invest in the future of Australian teachers by becoming a New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA) accredited professional development provider.

This endorsement gives educators the opportunity to complete their required hours to meet the nationally agreed Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. Canvas is initially offering five courses focussed on assessment, feedback and reporting standards, giving teachers the opportunity to learn applicable skills in an engaging and exciting format.

Myles Carrick - Head of Customer Success, APAC at Instructure, and former teacher, said “Canvas’ aim is to enable teachers to become more technologically proficient in the classroom, leading to a reduction in the administration burden so more time can be spent teaching the next generation. Offering courses in an engaging format allows teachers to take control of their professional development.”

Canvas’ NESA accredited courses are a cost effective solution for teachers to complete their accreditation hours. Delivered via webinar, these five courses give both individual teachers and institutions the ability to continue teacher learning, outside of the classroom.

Judith Breedon, Head of Science at St Lukes said, “Out of all the courses I have completed in my 17 years of teaching, the Canvas accredited courses have been the best professional development I have completed in the online learning space. The content was not only relevant to the current education environment but timely, pertinent and accessible for teachers of all levels of mastery on the platform.”

Canvas’ five NESA accredited courses are:

  • Assessing Student Learning with Canvas: Assessments and Rubrics
  • Giving Feedback with Canvas: Speedgrader and Gradebook
  • Assessing Student Learning with Canvas: Formative Assessment with Quizzes
  • Assessing Student Learning with Canvas: Summative Assessment with Quizzes
