If your New Year’s resolution is to innovate using the most open learning platform out there, boy, are you in luck. I’m excited to share that your Canvas Platform team has already started the year with a bang - IMS standards compliance!
As you already know, Canvas has always been committed to open standards, especially when it improves the interoperability between Canvas and other great edtech tools. Earlier in the year, I shared our plans to re-certify in many of the existing standards (that we already support) and certify in a few really important new standards. Exciting news: we’ve made good on that promise.
To date, Canvas supports the following IMS standards:
- Common Cartridge v1.0, v1.1, v1.2, & v1.3
- Thin Common Cartridge v1.3
- Caliper Analytics v1.1 - NEW!
- QTI v2.1 (delivery)
- LTI v1.0 & v1.1
- LTI v1.1.1 - NEW!
- LTI Outcomes Service
- LTI Content Item Message
In addition to the standards we support now, we’re working hard to add compliance for all standards planned for release in early 2017. We frequently engage in conversation with IMS and fellow organizations around competency-based education, badging, credentialing, and privacy, so you can rest assured that Canvas will remain the forward-thinking, openness-minded platform you’ve come to know and love.
If you ever have feedback for us, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me anytime at [email protected].
With that said, I wish you a year full of awesome open standards!
