The year was 1956. After decades of research and planning, President Eisenhower signed into law a bill that would forever change the face of transportation on the American continent. The Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956 jump started the Interstate Highway System that would serve as an important foundation for future growth. Fast forward 50 years and it’s hard to imagine where’d we be without the access and efficiency of this extensive transportation network.
Likewise, most students today can’t imagine a world without mobile communications. Seventy-six percent of postsecondary students brought a smartphone to campus in 2013 (and 31 percent brought a tablet). Half of these students said they wished their mobile devices were better integrated into their coursework. So the demand is there. Now students and teachers just need the infrastructure to make it possible.
Enter Canvas Mobile 3.0
It’s our redesigned and re-architected Canvas app that supports mobile learning in the 21st century. It already enables many of the great Canvas features that allow students to complete their coursework using mobile devices. We will continue to add more great functionality to provide learners and educators with convenient mobile access to their coursework.
We understand that learning is not all about Canvas. That is why we’ve built the Canvas app to be a platform for mobile learning. This architecture will better enable it to interact with other apps and devices that you use in class.
Canvas Mobile is here to be your partner. Our goal is to enable you, the student, the teacher, the instructional designer, the administrator, to be creative and innovative in your learning experience. After all, great civilizations are not built by roads, but by the ideas and creations that are transported on them.
