Peergrade is a certified Canvas partner and free online platform that enables quick, high-quality feedback through student peer review. As a Ph.D. student and lecturer at Copenhagen’s Technical University of Denmark (DTU), I created Peergrade to solve a real, classroom-based problem.
With 150 students, I simply didn’t have time to provide individual feedback, which is essential for effective learning. So I made Peergrade for myself, and soon after when the concept proved itself, many of my colleagues wanted to use it in their courses.
Here’s how it works:
-The teacher creates an assignment with a rubric.
-Students hand in their work.
-Assignments are then randomly and anonymously distributed to other students for evaluation and feedback using the teacher’s rubric.
-Students can rate the feedback they receive as helpful or not, and flag content for the teacher to see.
Through Peergrade, students receive valuable feedback about their work while becoming part of the evaluation process. And teachers like me get a swift overview of everything, while saving heaps of precious time.
Since Peergrade launched in 2015, it’s been featured in “Entrepreneur” magazine as one of 4 Startups Revolutionizing the EdTech World and named by “The Cult of Pedagogy” as one of 6 Ed Tech Tools to Try in 2017. It’s also being used by every major university in Denmark, along with institutions in 35 countries, including the U.S. Just this month, Peergrade was selected to participate in Singularity University’s collaborative venture in Denmark (SingularityU Denmark), a 5,000 square meter innovation hub. And with Emerge Education among our investors, our platform will benefit from even more edtech expertise.
