Canvas Family:

The last few weeks of protests and unrest clearly demonstrate that there is much work to be done to address racism, discrimination, and inequity. In response to this, we have taken time to reflect on how we can raise our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and belonging to make a difference in our communities. Today and every day, Instructure will remain committed to these core principles:

  • We have a zero-tolerance policy for racism, discrimination, or harassment of any kind.
  • We believe everyone should feel welcome to come as they are—regardless of race, gender, and identity.
  • We believe that equity should remain at the center of not only learning, but humanity as a whole.

In honor of Juneteenth, we will be closing US and international offices early, at 12:00 pm local time, on Friday, June 19.  We will have a reduced support model in place to ensure that our customers’ needs are covered, but allowing our customer success team to participate in Juneteenth activities.

As part of Juneteenth, our goal is to give Instructure employees an opportunity to have meaningful conversations with family, friends, and their communities to identify the actions we can take together to address racism, discrimination, and inequity. We acknowledge that these systemic issues will not be solved in one day, and we will continue to create space for these important discussions and actions through our internal Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging Council. Additionally, we have work to do within Instructure to continue to improve our own hiring practices as we strive for greater diversity.

Our company was built to support learners, and exists today to help people everywhere learn and grow. We believe education is a critical component in eradicating the systemic racism and oppression against the Black community. To promote continued learning, we’ve invited our community to help pull together a collection of educational resources that explore tolerance, give historical insight into the impact of racism, and raise awareness about ways that we can work together to create change. A few of those educational courses and resources from Canvas Commons are highlighted below. I would invite you to add additional resources you’ve found useful here

As the world fights to create true equality for all people, we will remain committed to our core values for the betterment of our employees, customers, and community.

Keep Learning,

Melissa
