What Kahn Academy is Doing
Growth mindset, a term coined by Carol Dweck, a giant in cognitive psychology, asserts that if you teach people that intelligence is malleable, then those people will experience increased learning outcomes. Khan Academy, a personalized learning resource for all ages, took this research to heart. A few years ago, they began including additional text next to learning exercises on their site. The text read: "The more you learn today, the smarter you'll be tomorrow." Through that one copy change, Khan Academy measured a 5% increase in problems attempted, of proficiencies earned, and in the number of people returning to the site. What are you doing to make sure your learners know that intelligence is malleable?
